Adventures in the Ceramics workshop: Crafting a Ceramic Bird Wall Hanging

Nestled gently on the balcony, surrounded by trees and the songs of birds, a small handmade ceramic bird perches on a branch—at home in its surroundings. Shaped in clay, carved with care, and painted with ceramic pigments, acrylic washes, and metallic patinas, each layer adds depth and character. A final coat of waterproof varnish protects the piece, ensuring it lasts outdoors.

What began as a humble sketch evolved gradually, until the artwork seemed to belong to its surroundings. More than mere ornament, it engages in a quiet dialogue with nature—echoing the rustle of leaves and the flutter of nearby wings.

This wall hanging merges ceramic art, mixed media techniques, and DIY decor, making it perfect for garden art, creative home projects, or as inspiration for your own art journaling, clay projects, and handmade crafts.

I will love to know, which techniques do you use to bring nature into your art?
